Over the last years the city of Málaga has become one of the biggest lures of cultural tourism. We are very aware of that and in every free walking tour we do day to day, we realize what the preferences and interests of the tourists are. And it is not strange that this city of paradise, as it was called by Vicente Aleixandre in one of his poems, now is one of the benchmarks of art. Here literature was profilic, in hands of Manuel Altolaguirre, María Zambrano and others. And of course we may not forget the universal genius of painting, Picasso. That is why we will dedicate different articles to discovering one of the important aspects of the city, the excellent offer of museums of Málaga.

The Center of Contemporary Art (Centro de Arte Contemporáneo) is located in the former wholesaler market of the city. Constructed by Luis Gutiérrez Soto in 1944, it was used until the eighties and the building maintains its very original almost triangular structure.
Since the year 2003 it houses one of the best museums of contemporary art on a national level. It is a big support to local artists and an international leader with the participation of expositions of for example Louise Bourgeois, the Chapman brothers, Gerard Richter and Paul McCarthy, some of which never had exposed in Spain before. It was also the first to receive the international quality seal ISO 9001:2000
Visiting this museum, besides being a success because of the art colections that we can see, brings you advantages like: book presentations, cinema projections and a restaurant on one of the sides. Its priviliged location that makes that we do not have to leave the city center and the fact that the entrance is free, demonstrates that the culture is available for everybody.
