Holy Monday
On Holy Monday you shouldn’t miss the popularly known as the brotherhood of the ‘Gitanos’ (gypsies) that begins its processional route at 4:15 p.m. . Another of the great appointments is the brotherhood of ‘Estudiantes’ of which you shouldn’t miss the act in the Plaza del Obispo, that this year will take part at 18:30. Holy Tuesday
The brotherhood of El Rocío opens on Holy Tuesday and you can’t miss its departure at 3:00 pm in the Victoria, a whole show, hence we recommend you go to the processional start of the Fraternity of ‘Las penas’ in which you will be able to see the most original mantle of the Holy Week of Malaga, made of flowers and that each year has a different design. Finally enjoy the procession of ‘Humillación y Estrella’, we recommended you the passage through the ‘Tribuna de los Pobres’.
Holy Wednesday
Now we have arrived at the equator of the week we recommend you to see the release of the prisoner that every year makes the procession of ‘El Rico’ in the Plaza del Obispo, then we advise you to see the processions of the ‘Fusionadas’ or the ‘Paloma’. Finally and to end the night of Holy Wednesday you must see the brotherhood of the Expiration which every year generates a great expectation and which has accompanied a representation of the spanish national police.
Holy Thursday
When we speak of Holy Thursday, we can’t think of anything else other than the legionaries, probably the most well-known procession in Malaga throughout Spain for the spectacle offered by the legionaries and for the fervor they devote to the ‘Cristo de la Buena Muerte’. However there are many other brotherhoods essential to see on Holy Thursday as are the ‘Zamarilla’, or ‘la Esperanza’ with which you can contemplate the most majestic throne of the entire Holy Week of Malaga.
Holy Friday
To end the Holy Week in Malaga we recommend you to take advantage of HolyFriday and see as many brotherhoods as you can, such as ‘Monte calvario’, ‘Dolores de San Juan’, ´Descendimiento’ or ‘Amor y Caridad’ among others. As a climax to Good Friday you must see the brotherhood of the Holy Sepulcher and the Venerable Order of Servites with which after its passage all the lights of the center of Malaga get off and the Holy Week will be concluded (with the exception of the confraternity of the Risen One who performs its processional journey on the morning of Resurrection Sunday).
For Holy Saturday the brotherhoods give a break and it is time to get to know the city better, without so much hustle and bustle through the streets of the center of Malaga. What do we recommend you? Undoubtedly the best option is to do a free tour in Malaga to know everything that the processions didn’t let you see the rest of the week and discover the history and culture of Malaga.
If after all these tips you still don’t know what to see during Holy Week in Malaga, we recommend you to get carried away by your instinct and stroll through the streets of the center of Malaga you will find sporadically with brotherhoods in unsuspected corners that surely also you will love it.
