We are among those who believe that a city doesn’t differ only by what it has, instead what it transmits. A clear example of this is the Soho neighbourhood, also called “Soho, District of the Arts”. But what is it? Soho Málaga is a cultural and commercial area located in the center of Málaga next to the Heredia dock, noted for having the presence of the CAC (Museum of Contemporary Art of Málaga) and the Alameda Theater, but not only for this has it has become one of the zones that generates more interest for travelers in Málaga.
MAUS Project
In cultural matters a few years ago, the MAUS project (Málaga Arte Urbano Soho) was promoted with the aim of developing cultural activities of various artistic disciplines, such as: performing arts and theater, photography, music, urban markets ‘, exchange markets, videocreation shows, and a long etcetera, that has managed to give life to a neighborhood that had previously been damaged and degraded by its misuse.
But we wouldn’t be talking about Soho Málaga, if we did not mention the urban art that has taken over the area, great artists such as Faith 47, ROA, Sal East, D’Face or Obey, have printed the city with their works on walls transforming the neighborhood in a large outdoor art gallery. If you do not know what to see in Soho Málaga, you are in luck because the MAUS website has a magnificent map with which you won’t miss any of these great works.
The best of the urban art of Soho Malaga
The first and most impressive thing that can be seen as soon as you get to the Soho neighborhood (or even from the Tetuán bridge itself, where you will get fantastic views) is the huge mural of Obey and D’Face, located just behind the CAC and next to the Guadalmedina river, high quality works that introduce Soho Málaga, a neighbourhood with a lot of urban art and that has become a benchmark for the city.
But this is obviously only one of the great works carried out in Soho Málaga, also highlights others such as those that can be seen in the river, which have managed to improve an area that has always been a subject of discussion and that, at least for the moment, looks better with a facelift, the work of artist Ben Einee with the phrase “He who once was prominent, now manufactures airs of change.” Also, a little further up on the Misericordia bridge, you can find more graffiti with a lot of style.
In the middle of Soho, the urban art is happening and one does not know well where to look to not miss any of these street works. Works by artists such as Faith47, Roa, Dal East and an infinity of free walls that will make you come out delighted.
